Social Media and the Stage

It is no secret that social media has taken over everyday life; it’s forced companies and brands to jump on board or get left behind. Entertainment and the arts are no different.

We have seen a huge rise in Broadway hits taking to social media to grow their base and share content to those who may not be able to make the trip to NYC. Lin-Manuel Miranda and Hamilton are a perfect example of this. The Hamilton accounts give followers a look into the growth of the show by following the national tours and sharing fan content and song covers. The coolest social media campaign has been Miranda’s #HAMILDROP. Through this campaign, Miranda shares scrapped songs, first drafts, and covers that transcend the musical realm. It gives fans a look into the process from conception to curtain and a chance to see their favorite songs covered by mainstream artists.

With the huge following and spike in popularity Hamilton saw, maybe more shows will take notice and we can bring Broadway back to the mainstream.
