This is the era of social media, a marketing tool that has transcended business’ engagement with their internal and external publics. There are endless platforms to choose from, each one has something different to offer, but which one will give you the best visibility? What creates traffic to your webpage/social media pages come from analytics derived from Search Engine Optimization and Search Engine Marketing.
What is SEO?
Search Engine Optimization or SEO is a tool used to measure web traffic visibility. Google’s Knowledge Graph, SEO is “the process of maximizing the number of visitors to a particular website by ensuring the sight appears high on on the list of results returned by a search engine”. Marketers use ‘buzz words’ or ‘key words’ on all of their pages and consistently post on a few platforms for their increasing engagement. This would be a traditional approach to digital marketing.
What is SEM?
SEM or Search Engine Marketing is another marketing tactic that comes from SEO, but the engagement isn’t organic. A tactic known as PPC (price per click) essentially pays for views. PPC drives traffic to webpages with these advertisements that are attached by a publisher on a page you are viewing (this may sound strangely familiar). This is a less traditional marketing strategy to spike engagement exponentially within a very short timeframe.
So, which one is better?
Marketing Specialists like Nicole Rende think that the organic SEO approach is the better tactic. There are certain times that SEM would have the advantage over using traditional methods like SEO. In my opinion, SEO seems more genuine, and it’s free, but you should always do what you feel is right for you.
